Pets should remain in their own yards if not on a leash and animals that habitually bark or cry are prohibited.
Dogs
Dogs, over six months of age, must be licensed. Licenses are valid for a two-year period and are available at the Police Department. Licenses may be purchased Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Apple Valley has a leash law for dogs and they are prohibited from running at large. Dogs are required to display their dog license and rabies tags. Citations can be issued for non-compliance with these ordinances. You may download the dog license application online.
Cats
Cats are not required to be licensed or leashed; however, a cat must have a current rabies vaccination and is required to display a rabies tag. Citations can be issued for non-compliance with these ordinances.
Kennel Permits
Kennel or cattery permits are required for more than three dogs or three cats. The maximum number of dogs or cats allowed by this permit is six.
Wild Animals
The city does not handle pest problems involving small wild animals such as woodchucks, raccoons, rabbits, or squirrels. Coyotes do exist within the City. For more information on Coyotes
